All attendees should now have a PM from me detailing which bottles and/or how many pounds are needed to bring this together.

Please action soon as I want those who are donating expensive bottles to receive the appropriate funds prior to the tasting.

Thanks.

For those coming to any tasting at the B&F between now and 2nd Oct could you please deposit your bottles in the cellar?
I’ll drop my bottle off next Wednesday.

Gentlemen,

I sent a request to each of you who need to make a financial contribution a few days ago. So far only Dave and Phil have paid and Axel has responded and an arrangement has been agreed. Thank you Dave, Phil and Axel. I have had no response from anyone else despite the fact that all but one of the PMs I sent has been read by the recipient.

Could the others please action the request as soon as possible or at the very least let me know when you plan to pay your share. We will be consuming a significant value of fine Port and it is only fair to those supplying it that they receive what they are due before popping the corks.

I am out of the country for 10 days at the end of September and would like to have all of this boxed-off before I go please.

Thanks
Derek

It is with a heavy heart and a huge disappointment that I am no longer going to attend this tasting. I have sent a message to Derek and hope someone on the reserve list is going to enjoy this wonderful tasting. finances are tight and I have had to choose between the tasting and a copy of Julian’s book...and THE book won. This is one of the most exciting tastings that has been arranged in my time as a member and I hope that all attending have a wonderful night and that the bottles are as fine as I dreamed they would be. All the best, Simon

Sorry to hear you can't attend, Simon.

I have sent a message to the first reserve asking if he wants the vacant seat.

I have added your name to the reserve list and will contact you if a space becomes available. Unfortunately that is unlikely as there are four others in front of you in the list.

Good spot. That is Constandia, who was added to the wait list twice by the former organiser. Now fixed.

Do we have any volunteers who could assist with setting up, decanting and pre-pouring on the day please?

I am not yet sure whether or not work commitments will allow me to be there ahead of the start time so if there is someone willing and able to take charge on the day of the tasting it would be much appreciated.

I hope to be able to arrive early to help pour, but am currently in a similar position regarding uncertainty of work commitments so will be unsure of my arrival time until much closer to the day.

I can get there a bit earlier, maybe 4pm? If I start decanting the younger stuff first, and work towards older, then if someone else can get there for 5.30 to help with pouring that would be great.

I thought one of the points of the default food thread was that the default order was taken as the order unless the individual actively and explicitly specifies something different? Kind of defeats the purpose if everyone needs to restate their default order every time does it not?

Agreed, though since the original request from Derek was to respond, not just to respond if you want different from default, I've followed that through on this occasion. If the outstanding people who hadn't replied all had a default defined I would probably have just used them and posted a "check this order" post instead.

Currently outstanding (no default specified): Tony and Wolfgang
Also outstanding (default assumed for now): Tom and Ian

Sorry, I hadn't thought of that protocol.

Perhaps this would be easier if the food orders were parameters in the placemats?

The defaults could be called automatically with the option to override.

We did have food in the placemats, but 7¾ years ago: see page 33 of 20101202_gbp15. It was a faff, and scrapped.

But there could be a Word file in the current format, with everybody’s default order in it.

Perhaps that Word file could be downloadable from the default order thread. And perhaps someone could offer to administer it as and when new or amended defaults are posted?

The first of those problems has been solved, although not with an up to date file.

The volunteer is welcome to send me the updated default file and I will upload it to the server, or to offer to host it elsewhere and I can edit the link.
