Port and the Douro - Richard Mayson

Post by PhilW »

I have been reading Richard Mayson's latest edition recently; very interesting and informative detail, particularly on the historical aspects; I would like.a little more detail in the appendices on volumes of port per producer per year, specially by type i.e. VP, but can't fairly complain; an excellently put together book. Unfortunately one of our young cats clearly does not appreciate the work and has poured water all over the book - a replacement will be purchased! Strongly recommended to both the new and experienced port lover.

Is there a new new edition? I found the one I have a bit idiosyncratically organised - the repetition of information between the chapters on different quintas, different producers and different table wine makers makes for a repetitious read at times. A good editor could have licked it into shape a bit.

Dear admin - please move this thread to port conversations where it belongs - too much wine tonight! Thank you!

Mine is the (now somewhat wrinkled and sticky) 2013 edition, not a more recent release.

Same one then. As I say, I think his information needs to be marshalled better in the next edition (and the indexing improved).
