Were any TPF members lucky enough to be in attendance for this?

How sad that such bottles were just guzzled by journos.PhilW wrote:Were any TPF members lucky enough to be in attendance for this?
Oh well, this video cheered me up a little. Harry Wallop seems to be a very abstemious man.

Re: Cockburn 200th tasting
I am torn when it comes to tastings such as these given to hordes of wine reviewers. Simply as most of them were probably spitting them out. Not exactly a great way to expend such old and rare bottles. They are meant to be enjoyed with true lovers of Port over an evening of no spitting and fun conversation. At least that is what the pure Port lover in me believes.
That said I understand tastings such as these do give some media exposure to the brand. How that really translates into sales of new stuff I have no idea.

Hear hear. Completely agree with your first paragraph Andy. And I don't imagine it does that much for the Cockburn brand; buys them some inches in Decanter and the like, where they're already a prominent brand after the profile the 2011 received. A waste, I think.
