Flagman

Post by JB vintage »

Does anyone know anything about Flagman Vintage Port? It was shipped by Douro Wine Shippers and Growers Association for Flagman Ltd - London. On the madeirawineguide it says that Flagman is an "import brand of Eggers & Franke, Bremen, for the German market. Traded by Flagmans Ltd, London." However, I do not know if this refers to a specific madeira wine or if it is general for Flagman. DWSG was a company associated with Barros and used to ship BOB and specific brands for the Barros group. Does anyone know anything more? I know that they have produced Vintage 1970, 1979, 1982 and 1985 but most likely many more. I believe it was a low price brand for a specific market but if that market is Germany it is a bit strange that the company is based in London.

Please, how do you know this?

I know since 1979 was the one we drunk, I have a Vintage 1970 and I have found 1982 and 1985 for sale (but far too expensive to buy).

Flagman is not a brand I have ever seen or heard of in the UK. My guess is that it is a brand specificall for the German market, even if sold to or created for a UK wine merchant.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
