Ends in a 7 - Tuesday 12th January 2027

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

I really liked having a Zombie Apocalypse escape between Christmas and New Year and then another tasting to look forward to in mid-January.

Since Julian already has the Zombie Apocalypse escape booked, I thought I'd get the mid-Jan date in the diary.

The theme is "Vintage Port, from a year ending with 7 - whether sighted or blind is up to you". That gives a pretty wide choice since 2017, 2007, 1997, 1987 (sort of), 1977, 1967, 1957, 1947, 1937, 1927 and 1917 were all declared, albeit some very small. Some people even made 1907 and then there are wines from 1897 and 1887 and maybe even from 7s before 1887.

You get the idea.

Who wants to commit to a tasting just less than 12 months from now?

I’m in. I have the 97, 87, and 77 options, but only from the 20th century, alas.

Obviously also 2017 and 2007. Maybe I’ll bring a Niepoort 17 to see how it is getting on.

I have none, but am hoping that somebody brings a Kopke 1847. In its time, it was famous.

Now that would be interesting. I haven’t tasted that since it blew my socks off when tasting it on release.
