NV Villa Oeiras 15YO Vinho Superior

To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

NV Villa Oeiras 15YO Vinho Superior

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Villa Oeiras Superior, 15 Years “ouro”, Carcavelhos. Pop and pour. More Arinto grape in this blend than in the younger blends. Rich golden colour, 10% opaque. A little oak on the nose (new Portuguese oak 225l barrels used on the younger wines, moved to used oak as the wines mature) blended in with bright honey. Sweeter (100g residual sugar) on the palate than the Correira 2012, as a result more rounded on the palate. Attractive marmalade fruit, sweet with a hint of underlying bitterness. Lovely orange marmalade finish, good persistence. 91/100. Tasted at a Carcavelos event on 29-Feb-2024.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
