A good deep colour.
A bit of rubber on the nose.
This is good full port on the palate. More sousao or alicante bouschet than touriga nacional, thinks Alex.
Good dryish finish. A deserved second on the night.

QH83 Dark dark red. Palate of lovely black pepper, very dry, and overall proper Port. I really liked this.

My W.O.T.N. Nice deep red colour, a little spicy on the palate. Still not a keeper so will drink up my few.

Re: 1983 Quarles Harris
E: Dark red tending to dark red at the rim. The darkest wine of the night for me.
N: A dark fruit nose.
P: A very full palate, with a nice bit of spice (and certainly drier than I’d usually go for). Very good length.
The second of three Ports from the column of acceptability. (2 points given).

Re: 1983 Quarles Harris
Deep red, perhaps the deepest red of all the wines being shown at this tasting; 80% opaque. Bright with fresh fruit on the nose, the fruit being dominated by black cherry. The nose is delightful. Poised entry, a mix of red and black fruit with a core of black liquorice. The wine has such an impressive aftertaste and finish - but despite its 40 years in the cellar, the wine needs more time to knit together. At the moment it is disjointed with the different elements all showing separately. At some point, enough patience should allow the wine to become properly integrated and a deliver a wonderful experience. 89/100. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

65% opacity, dark red. Rich, candied, deep red fruit nose. Chewy red fruit - strawberry, good balance, some faint tannin.
