Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Ian: your O70 and food added to the placemats.
Wolfgang: you and your Mz63 added. I have assigned you a food order as follows — if wrong, post a correction.
◊ Wild mushrooms on toast with walnut pesto;
◊ Chargrilled sirloin steak 220g (medium-rare) with hand-cut chips and grilled tomato.

I will be responsible for decanting three: F85, NN87, D97. My plan is to decant the F85 and D97 first thing in the morning, and the NN87 early afternoon. Objections?
Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Would it be possible to decant the night before for the D and F? Certainly F85 enjoys a long decant, and I doubt D97 would object.jdaw1 wrote:I will be responsible for decanting three: F85, NN87, D97. Very well: D97 and F85 to be decanted the night before.

I was going to decant the S63 just after lunch on the day, unless there are any recommendations of an optimum time?

There is always room for one more with a bottle of F77, even at a not-F not-’77 tasting.

Could we include a definition of black and blue? Perhaps "Black and blue = blue centre, burnt on the outside"jdaw1 wrote:Food order believed complete and accurate: please could somebody check.

Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Apologies for not asking this earlier.
The OBV72 is expected to be awful. Does anyone have a preference as to whether or not I decant it before traveling to London (circa 12 hours before the tasting) or when I arrive?
It will not affect the awfulness, but some might wish to experience the awfulness from the point at which the cork is drawn.
If there is no reply I will bring intact.

Bring intact. We can sample it from D+0 to D+4hr, which should be enough warning for those wanting some.
Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Maybe the O72 has previously been in a closed 'sulking' phase and tomorrow will reveal some nectar from the port gods! Let's remain positive until proved otherwise gentlemen.

It has not been proved to you. Which is not the same thing as it not having been proved.Doggett wrote:Maybe the O72 has previously been in a closed 'sulking' phase and tomorrow will reveal some nectar from the port gods! Let's remain positive until proved otherwise gentlemen.

Mz63 opened 6:17PM. Cork came out in one piece! Very promising smell which nearly affected concentration on brewing an early Espresso.
Will be decanted in a spare empty bt ~ 4:30PM. Hope to arrive shortly after 6:00PM.

Just to let you all know... Derek hasn't taken leave of his palate. The blame for the Offley 72 is entirely mine as Derek is very kindly bringing it for me to try.

All, unfortunately it looks as though I will be unable to attend this pm. My wife was ill overnight and in the absence of anyone else to look after her or my daughter, once again I am going to be a no show. My apologies for the late withdrawal

It's a cunning plan to avoid the OBV72 really, isn't it? (but I hope your wife recovers quickly, and it will be a shame not to have seen you).idj123 wrote:All, unfortunately it looks as though I will be unable to attend this pm. Shame you won't make it, but I hope your wife recovers well with your help. It is a shame we won't be able to compare the Offley 70 with the OBV72idj123 wrote:All, unfortunately it looks as though I will be unable to attend this pm. My Cr63 was delivered together with the placemats to the B&F at lunchtime. JDAW has kindly offered to decant the Croft when he arrives, as I will not get there until 6.30.

Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
I think Wolfgang is using the Audouze method, so this was opened 06:17 (not pm) but not decanted until 16:30.AHB wrote:Can I assume this was decanted at 6.17 am? Have we ever done a tasting to try and prove whether there is any value to Audouze?
e.g. a case tasting with:
4 bottles opened at 08:00, decanted 08:00
4 bottles opened at 08:00, decanted 14:00
4 bottles opened at 14:00, decanted 14:00
The blind the bottles and taste, score etc.
Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Phil is right, I opened it 6:17 AM and decanted it ~ 30 mintes before heading to the B&F so ~ 5:00 PM. Sorry for the typo.
