Port Hotels near Ipswich

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

It seems that unexpectedly I may be staying in or near Ipswich tomorrow night.

Does anyone know of a hotel or restaurant in the area which has a decent selection of port for a thirsty traveller?

Perhaps Seckfords would allow you to pitch a camp bed in their warehouse at Dock Lane for the evening?

I have noticed that I will be close to Seckfords. Sadly John has said he needs 48 hours notice to add me to my reserves.

...and you have to pay £28 + VAT to get out in the morning :-)

Try the Salt House Harbour hotel on the waterfront, last time I was there (2 years ago) they had a couple of mature vintages by the bottle, and some by the glass. Unfortunately I am in Keswick this week otherwise I would have suggested a much better option.....

I did take a look at the Salt House Harbour hotel wine list on the web, but they didn't have anything better than LBV so I ended up in Hintelsham Hall. They have a couple of vintage ports on their list, but you'll have to check the other thread to see what they are...
