Sometimes when I feel not to have a full bottle of Vintage Port for myself I open one and without any further decanting put half a bottle in a demi and seal it properly. I regularly mark those bottles to remind me what they are. (Oh, I know what this is and probably drink it tomorrow, so why bother marking it!)
But now - getting older and with a higher Port consumption - I just did find a bottle which I didnt properly mark - in fact, didnt mark at all.
So I am sitting here with a nice half bottle of Vintage Port, tremendously enjoing this, having no clue of what this might be.
Cheers
Axel

Shame it’s only a half.

Delightful. Pure indulgence. It may only be a half, but another may be found having also been similarly saved, should the need arise.
How long do you feel these rebottled resealed portions are able to be stored before they become past their best?

I had this Port stowed at least for 3 months. I believe it was an Offley 1970, which was absolutely brilliant yesterday.
You have to fill this directly into the demi with as little air exposition as possible and then store it rather cool. The younger the Port the more time it will keep.

Thanks. 3 months is longer than I expected, particularly for an older port. I've done similar for a week or so, and been happy enough. Knowing it will keep a little longer gives the flexibility to open something else. I'll give longer a go and see what happens.
