Cheapest Wine Toy Ever

I bought a Champagne opener today. It was from Sainsbury's and had been reduced to the extraordinary price of 3p, reuced from 10p. It is made from metal and seems to be of reasonable construction. My main problem is that I seldom have trouble opening bottles of Champagne. Have I been done?

Also - is this a suitable Wedding present for fellow wine lovers

I presume that this is some sort of sabre as that is the only instrument I have seen used to open champagne bottles other than a hand and set of fingers.

What does it look like?

John Lewis have got some "Champage Cork Catchers" in stock at the moment, presumably as wedding presents for people who like to shake 'n' pop rather than open and pour.

It looks like a stunted pair of nut-crackers. You put it around the top of the cork and grip, then wiggle, a bit like you do with an Ah-so de-corker.

These 'stunted nutcrackers' could put me out of business, if Deb gets to hear of them!

I've got a piccalilli jar opener!! It's a blue one, made of a hard but flexible plastic. It came from some catalogue of kitchenware from which Elizabeth likes to buy useless gadgets.

It cost more than 3p though.
