Taylor Pinhao 1931 or is it!

Post by Christopher »

I have just purchased a few bottles of the above labelled wine which is I believe an Army and Navy bottling.
I do not believe that Taylor's declared in 1931 and the Taylor's website does not have a harvest note.
Does anyone know - suspect Julian/ Derek, if Taylor's did a 31 special bottling for Army and Navy or whether it is just mislabelled!
One will be drunk at an offline shortly so we may have a clearer idea then! Sadly I believe the description is handwritten.

Thanks

The AEVP’s list of XXth century vintages has Taylor 1931. But that might have been a colheita.

Broadbent (2002) mentions a 1931 ‘Pinhão’ (his quotation marks), tasted in 1967.

I also have at home a reproduction of the Army & Navy Stores Limited General Price List 1939-40, page 100 of which is less than helpful:

Thank you very much Julian. I would have loved to be a client of British Empire Wines.
Will post picture and details when first bottle is opened.
At the moment not moving any wine due to heat!
