I make that 27 countries of which you have managed the bold ones - 7. England and Scotland only count as one as the UK is the member state.

I will update as you post!

Sorry for going off-topic but did anyone watch the Germany v Portugal game? Good entertainment with the expected outcome.

Didn't watch but saw the result. Must say I was quite surprised. And a bit sad, as I was looking forward to a Netherlands-Portugal final.

Halbfinale - ohoh, Halbfinale ohohoh.

A great 94 Noval VP and an outstanding game. What a great increase in performance.

Though the games beforehand were absolutely poop and I would not have bet a nickel on the Ballack&Co.-team: Victories are always more precious when they are unexpected.

So, Im going to finish off my bottle.

See you on Wednesday - vs. Croatia again.

Derek,
what do you mean by: expected outcome? The german team sucked more than any other team, except the Austrians.

We have a saying in the Netherlands that goes: A football match last 2 times 45 minutes and in the end Germany wins.

This just seemed like a typical outcome to me. Germany often seem to start these competitions slowly but then hit their form when it comes to the knock out stage. Very annoying for the competition but the mark of a dangerous team.

Axel,

I'm with you. Germany pinched one. But good luck to them. They exploited Portugals weakness of no height, and the hapless Paulo Ferrera at the back. Plus a sneaky push by Ballack before his goal.
Yet it is what knock out football is all about.
On paper, Croatia are stronger, but it's not played on paper.

The next interesting game, for me is the Dutch. Suddenly they are favourites, yet I see weaknesses at the back. Like Portugal, they have enough talent up front to make up for it, but just like Portugal, it can all go wrong.

I thought Portugal v Spain.

Now I think Croatia v Spain. (But thank goodness I'm not betting!)

I was very impressed that there was barely magic on the portuguese side and that there was so much ingenious policy and dicipline on the german side.

I expected that the Portuguese would blow away the Mannschaft.

The losers.

Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

If this all goes to form, which these things never do, Germany will play Netherlands or Spain in the final.

So I will predict here and now the Italy will win Euro 2008.

Turkey vs. Russia in the final. Turkey will win after penalties.

Without any national feelings and very much repect for the Turkish team:
N e v e r e v e r they can beat The Mannschaft. Cause national dishes would be Döner and Lahmacun (yummy) with Sauerkraut (aaaahhhh- goooood!!!). The Turkish language would become official language. And The Mannschaft would have to emigrate to Molwanien.

But good news for you lucky guys: No comment from me on the match next Wednesday. I will be on the road to Burgundy.

So thats sorted then.

Germany v Turkey,

Spain v Russia.

I've been with Spain all the way, but Russia didn't half look useful. I'll hope Germany, for the lads on the Forum, but suspect the winner comes from the other Semi.

Well done to Spain, a well deserved victory which should have had more goals.

I did have to laugh at Motty's reaction to Fernando Torres' goal when he tried to persuade us all that Liverpool and the English Premiership were in some way responsible   - classic BBC commentary

Derek

PS: Axel/Michael - where were your guys? They didn't seem to turn up tonight!

Well done Spain.

I should point out that some German players did turn up - Ballack and Schweinstieger and errmmmm... OK two turned up. Shame that the defence didn't. Bigger shame that the Spanish didn't take more advantage.

Deserved winners.

In Burgundy as mentioned. I saw the match in France on TV. It was so good that the (apparently better) Spanish team won. So you can love us Germans further on. As you know we love to be loved, not only be respected.

In France I had (finally!) the great opportunity to taste 1989 Cruz Vintage Port. What a surprise that they are allowed to call this "Port". Did not manage to "drink" more than one small glass. TN would be pain put into words.
