2019 Niepoort LBV Unfiltered (bottled 2024)

From a 375ml bottle, on initial opening lots of fresh fruits, but quickly overpowered by a heavy minerality I don’t often get with LBVs. Upon inspection, cork glitters with small tartrate crystals.

24 hours later, the minerality is diminished on the palate, and the taste has transformed more towards blackberry and plum.

48 hours later, and oxidation has helped mellow out the mineral taste, allowing for more prominent notes of sweet boiled candy to come through along with the ever-present blackberry note.
