NV Porto dos Santos Tawny 10YO (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Porto dos Santos Tawny 10YO, bottled 2022. A dark chestnut brown colour with a touch of brick in the tone; very dark in the glass, 90% opaque. Rich balsamic on the nose, sweet and sour combining with an opulent umami. Concentrated date and grapefruit, dried figs and so much complex dried fruit. Yet despite the sweetness, the acidity is rich and confident enough to balance the wine on the palate. The complexity on the palate is not quite matched by the aftertaste and finish, but the finish is long and absolutely delicious. An exceedingly impressive 10YO.  90/100. Drunk 15-Dec-24.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
