1963 Constantino

In a bottle of Fonseca 1963 was a question rather than a certain answer:

Recognising that this scientific question needed scientific experiment, a round dozen of us gathered to test some 1963s.

Fruit thinning slightly, but plenty of backbone/grip and improving as the evening progressed. My 3rd place for voting.

30% opacity, red. Smooth, rich mouthfeel, nicely balanced, mature red fruit in the mouth. Very pleasant to drink and certainly not a weakling by any stretch in the company of the others on the evening. I gave it half a point alongside the G63!

Cn63: glorious red, 50% opaque. Bright maraschino cherry. Fruit strong, mid-weight. WPS noticed “some VA”—I didn’t.

Rose-red in colour and about 50% opaque. A lovely nose of caramelised rhubarb scattered with a little library dust. A wonderful texture on the palate with rich and fruity Christmas cake. There is lots of power and heftiness to the palate, which is followed by a fabulous aftertaste that is sweet, rich and comes with great depth. A very fine Port and not far off being my wine of the night at this 1963 horizontal. 92
