I don't know if anyone's heard of the Oeno Group (or even - god forbid - invested in it), but apparently it's an investment firm for investing in fine wine and whisky. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's apparently in big financial trouble (perhaps by design - i.e., fraud), and clients risk losing all their investments.

That’s not good.

Fortunately I’ve only ever invested in my own Fine Wine Portfolio. Although my financial return has been affected by the firm’s owner drinking excessive amounts of my investments.

I've been thinking the same thing, and wondering when we'll start to see prices dropping in the market. I'm not a huge fan of bourbon, but there are a couple that I like to have around and I'd love to stock up.

On first read I assumed you mean the latter, but Glenn seems to have assumed the former.

The loss of the majority of the Canadian market really was a massive own goal (albeit not entirely of their making).

It will be acquiring companies/distilleries along with all stock being held. Buy outs at pennies on the dollar is worth it for a big player to swoop in.

India is an extremely big liquor market and still quite emerging in terms Bourbon consumption. 1.5 billion population; it doesn't take much to have a huge market. It's a near blue ocean for acquisition.

I assume both. There's been quite a spike in various alcohol prices over the last 15-20 years, and I suspect that the current situation is going to cause part of that to collapse. We may never get back to the early 2000s' prices, but even getting halfway back would be nice. I remember being able to buy 21-year-old aged rum and bourbon for $150-$175. Now they're $500-$600 if you're lucky, and $1500 isn't uncommon.

Before the distressed companies sell, they'll try to prop up business by lowering prices. If that fails, then someone major will step in a acquire them.

Bourbon industry needs to expand into emerging markets at realistic pricing.
