Mon 29 Dec 2025, B&F, Not Had Port for Seven Months

Post by jdaw1 »

A zombie / in-law invasion needed to be escaped by one of us, and another proposed that the theme be ‘Vintage Port that you would like to drink if you had not Vintage Port for 7 months’. At the Boot & Flogger, on Monday 29th December 2025.

Well, that was wholly excellent. I escaped zombies; a submariner tasted Port after seven months on duty; we salute Cliff for providing so much; that was wholly excellent.

I have recently commissioned and bought arched floor staves, for a cellar. In buying them I ‘accidentally’ bought one box too many. Somebody wanted the extra box. But I can’t remember who. Who?

I have, within my limitations. Others encouraged to do likewise.

A most excellent evening. I thank you all for your generosity, kindness and the welcome provided to my guest JHT. I particularly enjoyed both Bollinger RD, the Cheval Blanc 1976 and the Croft 1945. Many wines were at their optimum drinking window and I feel privileged to have tasted them. I think the score sheet shows that the majority of wines scored something, not a bad metric.

I venture that those attending on Monday were probably the 12 'best refreshed' people in the country on that day.

A great way to end the port year and I certainly left ‘refreshed’. Thank you to everyone for sharing such a memorable set of ports. Several of the ports would be stand out stars on another day but scored little in the presence of the likes of a Croft 1945. It was my first ever tasting of a 1962 port and what a port to open my account (thank you Julian). Thanks also to Cliff for sharing the four non-port magnums in addition to the 35, 45 and 55 ports. The Cheval Blanc was just delicious.

Thank you Mike for posting the Tasting Scores. Along with the reviews, I always enjoy seeing how the bottles placed and how everyone scored them.

Thank you for the notes and the scores. A tasting truly worthy of the theme!
