I also slightly prefer 13th Jan.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

If it's a date I can make, I can offer Quinta do Crasto, Quinta do Noval, Petre's Port (from Niepoort - but I'll need some notice to get them out of storage), Quinta do Vesuvio or Warre (4 year bottling).

Great Minds Think Alike----Fools Seldom Differ!

This Saturday, November 15th, 8 of us will gather in New Jersey, USA to taste ten 1995 Ports (we have 22 and likely will do the balance at another time). Our line up includes:

Cockburn Quinta dos Canais
Delaforce Quinta Da Corte
Ferreira
Fonseca Guimaraens
Graham's Malvedos
Quinta do Crasto
Quinta do Vesuvio
Smith Woodhouse Madalena
Taylor Quinta de Vargellas
Quinta do Infantado

Plan on serving blind---but all will know the line-up.

I attended a 1995 tasting in 2015---curious to see how ones tasted then stack up (WOTN that time was the Malvedos with Ferreira a close 2nd). On balance this is a very fine year; fortuitous it came on the heels of 1994 as there are some awesome SQVPs here and usually at a very good price.

Thank you, Julian, for doing our placemats.

For the London tasting there is now a draft of the placemats, pictures of which have been added to the first post.

@AHB: please say more about that claimed to be Warre.

Is this a Warre LBV, bottled 1999 — which would be fine. Or is this more old-school, a Warre proper Vintage, accidentally bottled late. Given the post-1970ness of this tasting (tutting and sighing from some), I’ll assume the former, consistent with which, the placemats have been updated.

I have purchased a couple of additional bottles for this tasting. At the moment however we are 9 people so need a couple more ‘volunteers’.

A double loss for us. Maybe it can be a single loss: if we were to particularly desire the TV and the FG, please would you be willing to sell them to the tasting?

I will wave at you from somewhere over the Atlantic. But I am afraid I have drunk the Croft Roeda 1995 in a moment of port weakness.

We currently have plenty of bottles but only 8 attendees. We are less than a month away. Anyone else interested? I guess otherwise we may need to offer to move rooms.

I have a couple of people I can ask. Re the room, a Tuesday in January - I think we should be fine.

Following discussion with the organiser, bottle-bringing is currently believed to be as follows:
  • MJRM — TVVV, In (for DC), Pt (for NPM), RP (for JML);
  • JDAW — W (for self), Ts (from HTWH), G ʟʙᴠ (bot. 2001, from HTWH);
  • NAC — ChAA, GM, N;
  • AHB — Pe, Cs, W ʟʙᴠ (bot. 1999);
  • MSC — Os;
  • IDJ — V;
  • CPR (sent via somebody) — TV.
If wrong speak soon.

@Mike: you’re at both, and not currently burdened with decanting duties for the 1995s. So you are being volunteered.

I’d prefer not to bring the Petre unless I really have to (or unless someone living close to Melton is willing and able to collect it for me).

I’ve just done a big delivery from storage and I’d rather not arrange another one now with the chaos of Christmas at Seckfords.
