1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
I'll bring the OBV, then. I've not got round to trying it before as it will be from an unopened OWC in the cellar . I'm happy to bring one of my other bottles by prior arrangement. I'm assuming for this vintage we'll all be following the double decanting guidance?

@ Screagle - great, the OBV. How exciting to be breaking open an OWC for it! I do not know the double decanting guidance, but, yes, a double decant on the morning of the tasting is indicated.

I have a Ca85 which is very accessible, if that’s any good?

Flash, Harry, Will - may I invite your suggestions as to what you might bring?
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
As of November, I had Ferreira, Ramos Pinto, Graham, Fonseca, Infantado, Pocas Junior, Burmester, Calem, Borges (to my shame), Taylor, Rebello Valente, Niepoort, Gould Campbell and Kopke Sao Luiz. What would you like me to bring?winesecretary wrote: ↑22:14 Fri 25 Feb 2022 Flash, Harry, Will - may I invite your suggestions as to what you might bring?

@ Will W. - fantastic. Please could you bring Ramos Pinto for you, and Pocas Junior for adoption. Very much appreciated, and look forward to seeing you once again.
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
I shall confirm tomorrow (being away at the minute), but I believe that I still have both to hand. More anon.winesecretary wrote: ↑00:56 Wed 02 Mar 2022 @ Will W. - fantastic. Gents, work is ramping up at the moment, which is unfortunately at odds with plans to take days off to come up to London. I'm going to have to drop out of this one, but if things become calmer I may be able to join late on if there are any last minute cancellations. My apologies.

George, my apologies, I now need to bow out of this one. Disappointed, as I was keen to get a reading on the '85s and get a view on some piurchases.winesecretary wrote: ↑22:14 Fri 25 Feb 2022 Flash, Harry, Will - may I invite your suggestions as to what you might bring?
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
Sorry about all of the chaos my end and only just replying to this. After sadly letting you all down and missing the last 2 events at the last minute (which is very bad form) I'm very looking forward to this one.winesecretary wrote: ↑22:14 Fri 25 Feb 2022 Flash, Harry, Will - may I invite your suggestions as to what you might bring?
Please can I bring as an extra a Magnum of Taylor's 85 (so that we can compare to the bottle) plus one of the other options of Warre's (bottle or Mag), Dow's, Taylor's, Fonseca, Calem, M. Gonzalez, Smith Woodhouse, Gould Campbell, Grahams, Cockburn, Churchill, Infantado (I only have one of these and was going to save it for the 40 or 50 year tasting)
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
George - If there’s another space and no one else on the reserves list, I might have another taker. Shall I enquire?
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
Confirmed: I have and will bring the Ramos Pinto and Pocas. Will W. wrote: ↑11:17 Wed 02 Mar 2022I shall confirm tomorrow (being away at the minute), but I believe that I still have both to hand. Draft of the placemats added to first post.
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
Sadly I have to drop off the reserves list. My elder son has just told me that we are going to Leeds Uni to look around the Engineering dept that day. This is a good thing, it will be fun, but the timing sucks. We went round Bristol Uni Engineering yesterday, and he let me know much earlier for that one. Hope the tasting goes well, and all the Ports show marvellously.
Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
@GEAG - I have a definitely interested party assuming there is now a space.
Have been trying for a while to get him to attend. Initials are JB (he's a Julian, mathematician, and Cambridge).

no porblem with the SW.
I don't think that Croft is on the list, I think that I have a case of it somewhere, I have move a few things in the cellar to check if it is needed.

Please don’t. Croft 1985 is virtually undrinkable. We once sent back two bottles at one of Davy’s branches because it was pure VA.

At least your son is more forward looking than mine. Mine said something along the lines of “Dad. I’ve accepted an offer from Cardiff. Can you take me to look at the University please?”DaveRL wrote: ↑22:30 Thu 03 Mar 2022 Sadly I have to drop off the reserves list. Julian2 is a "yes". He doesn't have any appropriate 85s so will need to adopt.

Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022
@ nac - I have assigned JB the Churchill at the usual nominal £45.
@ all - I have now tidied up the attendance list, my apologies for being slow in doing that. We are currently 13 and have 16 ports lined up. I would quite like us to have a 14th person, if anyone has a candidate.

jdaw1 notifies a potential candidate so I have asked him to check their availability
