In a bottle of Fonseca 1963 was a question rather than a certain answer:

Recognising that this scientific question needed scientific experiment, a round dozen of us gathered to test some 1963s.

30% opacity, brown orange. Smooth entry, full mouthfeel, faint tannins and fruit quite faint also. On the downslope this one.

Bottled in the UK by an unknown bottler. A mature red-brown colour, light and evolved appearance that is around 30% opaque. Sour cherries on the nose, fresh and lively. Good flavoursome entry with cranberries and brown sugar on the palate. Slightly dusty taste to the fruit, which comes with lots of sweetness but is nicely balanced by the acidity. An amazing aftertaste, full of caramelised cranberry; a big dose of acidity freshens the mouth and makes all the saliva glands fire off at once. A lovely finish of complex celery and green wood. 90/100.
