1988 Leoville Barton

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Courtesy of Axel, I had the opportunity to drink this splendid wine from my favourite region.

Deep red, slight bricking on the rim. Wonderful classic nose of pencil lead and strawberry leaves. Sweet first impression, but the traditional 1988 tannins show strongly. Dry, lots of pine resin and plenty of fruit. Very tannic aftertaste before a long and tobacco dominated aftertaste.

Really delicious. Drunk 1 Feb after 1 hour decant. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
