This is a white wine based Vermouth made with sloes and elderberries harvested from the hedgerows of the Vineyard (which is well worth a visit for their excellent breakfast and delicious wines) and with herbs and spices from elsewhere steeped together to deliver a distinctive Vermouth.
Dark red in colour, with a distinct brown tone. Very lively on the nose, with rose petals, wormwood and immense spice. Big palate, sweet but nicely balanced fruit with smoky elderberry and bitter-edged sloe. The botanicals are incredibly complex with the wormwood giving a wonderful bitterness to the wine. Delicious finish, like sweetened birch-sap wine. The vineyard promote the use of this Vermouth in mixes (which it is wonderful in) but I really enjoy it lightly chilled and neat. I loved this and bought a bottle to drink at home, but I am a sucker for Vermouth. 91/100. Drunk 05-Feb-2020.
