1983 Gruaud Larose
Brick red with a paler rim, 80% opaque. More of the barnyard smell picked up on the 1988. Gentle impact and a better balance than the 1988. A lovely chewy tannin structure but plenty of fruit overall. Softer, fruitier but with a lovely structure. A great finish, full of fruit and a massive length of finish. This is delicious claret. Was guessed blind to be Gruaud Larose 1983!! 93/100. Drunk 10-Apr-15 as part of the Doty Cup.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

- and not just on this one, but it seems that Alex had a phenomenal night of naming the wines, assuming no prior knowledge whatsoever; great job, and I assume you may be this year's king of the event?

I was really quite pleased with my guesses. I don't drink a lot of wines other than port so I was pretty surprised at how well I did. I was guessing, but they were educated guesses with absolutely no idea what the wines where or what the pairings or overall theme was.
