Rupert Symington recommends allowing Chryseia 10 years to reach its peak. Brick red in colour, but with an opaque centre. Lovely open and developed nose. Huge component of leaves and compost mixed in with mature fruit. Surprisingly dry and acidic on entry with a massively tannic structure under which lurks sweet, fragrant fruit. This has great layering and a great fragrance. Big, tannic with a chewy finish and an enormous length. A great wine. 95/100. Drunk 24-Feb-15.

Did you find this more a "universal" tasting wine than a typical Douro wine? I ask as I've often found many of these older bottlings of these to be quite nice at times, but lacking Douro character. Yet the newer ones seem to have shifted to a slightly more Douro profile, which I like a bit better.

I did, but I don't know whether that was because the wine was fairly mature or whether it was made in that style. Whatever, I did enjoy it.
