1970 quinta do noval decanting quetions
when i was born i was given a 1970 bottle of port that was in 1987. the port has been stored properly for years. now it has come to me that my port might have missed its prime and needs to be drunk asap. i have the proper decanter and cork puller but would love to know the right way to do it. should i stand it up for a day or two? and how many hrs before serving should i decant. seeing that this forum is all about port i am hopping i could get some real helpful information from someone who has had this vintage. thanks for looking

Noval 1970 can be an excellent Port, not past its prime.
Decanting is easy, and should be done three to six hours before drinking. Remove cork. Pour slowly into decanter, watching carefully. When the sediment starts to appear, stop, and decant the remainder through an unbleached coffee filter.
Enjoy with friends. Or, even better, without. (Less company, but more Port per person.)
