Drunk at the Loosen winery with Ernest Loosen and Sales Manager Désirée Schröder on 13th August 2014.

Grown on blue slate in various vineyards around Bernkastel. All the Loosen vineyards are 'Grand Cru' quality in the VDP's classification, so they have to 'declassify' their grapes in order to produce estate and village wines. Aged in 3000 litres 'fuders'; the majority stays on the yeast in the barrel for 12 months.

Light and fritzy (that's what I wrote, I'm not sure what it means) in the nose. Very mineral, slatey and austere, the tannins soft. Straight, elegant, pure; what Désirée describes as a 'feminine' wine.

I found this note in my little black book: "very mineral, less fruity than the Rotschiefer, feminine indeed"
