Right after opening the bottle I was quite disappointing: the wine appeared to be very flat, the nose very closed with a strong raisinish character. The good, very deep red colour promised a lot though.
After 2 hours almost no change, maybe a little more fruity, but the nose was still not good enough for a 94 VP.
After 3,5 hrs it starts to open up. The color is darker than before, the nose fairly fruity with rasberry and black currant. There is a medicinic note underneath, which is not too pleasant and will hopefully go away. On the palate the wine is very smooth, although the alcohol is totally not integrated, which gives the wine a very sharp background. The tannins are much more integrated. Nice sweetness and a good concentration. Averagely long aftertaste.
5 hrs after decanting the fruitiness showes up even more, but still: the alcohol is still too sharp on the palate: will it ever totally integrate?
If so this wine will be very pleasant to drink in 5-10 years, but will not be one for the ages as some of his bigger brothers (Dows, Grahams, Vesuvio).
