laid down port

My uncle died recently and I know he had laid down some port in Bristol- unfortunately I can find no paperwork. I'm checking with Taylor's and Berry's but I cannot find any contact details for Harvey's. Since they were absorbed by Beam I'm worried that the port, if it was with them, may now be lost! Any ideas please?

With no paperwork, and the long passage of time, you are going to have a difficult job enforcing delivery against Harvey’s. If Berry’s have paperwork, well, hallelujah!, but if not, it doesn’t look good.

The records of Harvey's of Bristol are held at the Bristol Records Office:

A phone call to the archivist there would be a good place to start as they might have the old cellar inventories or records of what happened to unclaimed stock.

Have you tried contacting Avery's?
Unless you know for certain that your late uncle was dealing with Harveys and/or Berrys, I would think Avery's is the most likely Bristol wine merchant to be storing his port.
