Warre 1972 vintage port

I was at the Whisky Exchange with to buy Warres 1972 vintage Port. I have not tasted it before and I was quite excited even though 1972 is not a great year. The bottle did not have a lable, but that is not uncommon. However, I expected that the cap would reveal the producer and vintage, but it was neutral with embossed vine and grapes. I was told that the vintage was shown on the cork. As I had no way of verifying the producer I passed on the offered £80 a bottle. Has anyone on this forum tasted it? Is it a Warre Vintage?

Irrespective of shipper or bottle quality, £80 is a lot of money for a 1972. For my taste, much too much money to ask.

At £25 I would hesitate. Then buy it as an oddity to bring, as a second bottle, to a blind tasting. At £80 no way.

I purchased one of those bottles from The Whisky Exchange last year. When I pulled the cork it turned out to be Warre 1970. It was an expensive error but the bottle showed very well. I emailed TWE to let them know their mistake but they appear to have done nothing about it.

You could, of course, have returned the bottle and asked for a full refund under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended), as set out in clause 48 given that the goods did not conform to their description. It would have been difficult for the Whisky Exchange to argue that you could not return the bottle given that you did not know the description was wrong until you had pulled the cork!

However, I would expect that they would want the content in return too. The value of the wine deteriorates very much on first use.
