1966 Warre (probably)
Eleven regulars gathered in a crowded Bung Hole to give Mr Doty a break from Wimbledon, in the form of a 1966 horizontal. It’s a hard life.

W66. Generally agreed to be Warre, both by preponderance of external evidence, and by tasting much more like
the other Warre than
the Dow. Brich red, 40% opaque. Similar bitterness to
the other Warre. Similar heat. Slightly fuller and better. The sweetness in the palate continuing very long. Later, still good. Not of the first rank at this table, but that is credit to the ‘table’ rather than criticism of the port.

A very similar colour to the confirmed Warre from this tasting, a nose of smoky toffee with some spirit behind this. A good wine in the mouth, but I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the Dow, which I tasted it alongside. Some tannin, not a great deal.

Warre
Flavors and aromas of milk choc, stewed rasp, red cherry, marmalade, vanilla, and it had extreme complexity of aromas of both floral and mineral components

Oporto bottled. Burnt sugar colour, a deep orange / brown. Smokey nose, dried fruit rather than sweet fruit. Sweet on the palate with clover honey and redcurranr syrup. Nice balance, nice liveliness. Lovely, lovely long finish of engorged golden sultanas - fragrant, delicate and deliciously sweet. Terrific palate, complex, lively and multilayered. 93/100.
