I opened a bottle of Smith Woodhouse 1983 Saturday. These bottles have two capsules and a selo, in the following order:
Outer capsule: Thick Black tin/aluminum
Selo
Inner Capsule: Thin yellow aluminum wrapper.

On the Inner Capsule there was written in dark gray penciled letter "A" with no corresponding indentation on the Selo, outer capsule, or cork. Other bottles from this case have been opened, this is the first such mark I have noted.

maybe it was used to mark the ones with lead poisoning =)

Thankfully it did not cost more, but I must say it actually tasted a little better than the others. This one had a moment where it evolved to well balanced, usually i find they remain a bit to spirity and sharp.
