Some of you may have noticed that I recently became bored with both my avatar and my signature strapline, and have changed both. I thought for a bit of fun I would make my signature line show the best port I have tasted so far this year - and included last year just because I could. While I'm not as sophisticated as Jacob and therefore not able to automatically update the information in my signature, it's relatively easy to update it by hand.
Having declared so publicly what I thought were the two best ports I tasted last year, I'd be interested to know what others were most impressed by in 2011. Any thoughts?

Best port of 2012 so far is Fonseca 1970

2011 was a great year for me, port-wise.
My top 10 in order of age were:
Warre 22
Taylor 27
Graham 45
Cockburn 63
Croft 66
Graham 66
Taylor 70
Warre 70
Fonseca 70 (multiple occasions)
Taylor 77 (multiple occasions)
The ones that were unexpected (for me at least) were the Taylor 70 and 77 (drunk several times with great pleasure over the latter months of the year, but which had never previously impressed me) and the Cockburn 63 (in fact, bottles of Cockburn 60, 63, 66, 67 and 70 all really stood out as unexpectedly impressive last year).

I think the best I tried in 2011 was the 1977 Niepoort Garrafeira; I don’t think I’ve ever tried a wine with such complexity and length of after-taste.AHB wrote:Having declared so publicly what I thought were the two best ports I tasted last year, I'd be interested to know what others were most impressed by in 2011. Of Vintage Ports, I remember being extremely impressed by the Sandeman 1945 and the Warre and Graham 1970. The one that really surprised me is the Fonseca 1985. I think this will be a fabulous, classic, Port and is perhaps under-rated compared to other Fonsecas.
