70% of my purchases so far in the past 2 years have been all port (about 140 bottles a year)

If i goto non port offlines, I'm the one bringing the port.

what does that count as? =)

My "collection" is almost entirely Port.

I own one bottle of fortified wine from a region outside the Douro: Lange's 1888 (Australia)

I normally have anywhere between 6 and 100 bottles of dry red wines from various regions that are for general consumption, not for keeping or for taking to tastings. I do not have any dry red wine in storage.

I own no white wine.

It is possible that port accounts for as much as 10% of my total wine collection.

Not having the figures to hand, I would say my cellar is:

60% French Red Wine
15% Other Red Wine (mainly Italian)
15% White / Champagne
10% Vintage Port

While only ~10% of my collection, Vintage Port accounts for ~25% of all my tasting notes since 2010 (218 of 903) -- so thanks to TPF for giving me so many opportunities to drink such fabulous wines!

My collection contains a mere handful of non-Port dessert wines. A couple of ice wines and a couple of Rieslings. However I do also store some dry red wines for my wife's pleasure, so my storage space contains "only" 80-85% Port.

I can't recall attending any non-Port related events in the past, but I'm breaking that tradition tonight by accompanying my wife to the Issaquah Wine Walk. I won't be participating... just ensuring that she gets home. She has performed the same service for me many times in the past, so I'm happy to tag along for her, too.

Rather unexpectedly, it looks like I might be more cosmopolitan than some others here. For example, in the past 3 years I have attended a Mouton Rothschild tasting, an English Wine seminar, toured an English vineyard and participated in a 1980s 3ieme value claret review.

But that doesn't detract from the fact that I am a thoroughly dedicated port lover (with a lower case p). I pull about 78 bottles of Port a year out of my cellar and probably 36 bottles a year of non-Port. Of the non-Port, probably 12 bottles are Champagne, 12 are claret, 6 are English and 6 are anything else. I probably attend 36-40 tasting events a year, of which all but 1 or 2 will be port focussed (or where I will focus exclusively on the ports on show).

In the cellar, 91% of the bottles are Port, 3% are claret, 2% is Champagne and 1% Australian; I also have English, Rhone, Spanish, Hungarian, Sauterne, South African and "Other" each accounting for less than 1%.

I draw 48 bottles of vintage port for drinking casually at home each year, plus about two dozen for social events. I also drink about two dozen other bottles of port, notably bottles of LBV in hotel rooms.

I divide my red wines into two broad categories - cheap quaffers and decent bottles, and get through about five cases of each every year for home drinking. I also drink about a dozen bottles of white wine.

I don't drink as much beer as I used to, and hardly ever at home, but still get through close to 1,000 pints a year in pubs and bars.

Although my port is meticulously catalogued, I don't have much idea as to how many bottles of wine I currently own - somewhere short of 1,000 bottles I think - I must count them this year!

I drink far more Port than any other type of wine, and firmly prefer wines that are sweet and /or fortified to table wines. I do like red table wine but most of what I own is Port, though, simply because I tend to drink table wines when I’m out at restaurants and Port at home, so I don’t need to have much around. If I have a dinner party, I’ll probably go out and buy something specifically for it.

I’ve never been to a private non-Port tasting, but I go to quite a few commercial ones ranging from big walk-around tastings to sit-down ones with a lecture and semi-private ones in bars which do a tasting selection (like Vinologia in Oporto). In 2011, I think I went to tastings with: sherry; fortified wines from Roussillon; whisky; tokaji; wines from Piedmont; a few Madeira tastings in Madeira, and a general ‟wines of the year” tasting. I guess I therefore like quite a range, though all within the ‟oddity category”.

Port takes up just under 50% of my cellar, but I drink far more red and white wine than Port. Because of the climate here I tend to drink a lot more white wine than I used to, also I found that from what's locally available I find more enjoyment in cheap whites than in cheap reds. All the Port needs to be brought in (2 bottles per person per time) so is only for special occasions.

Of the other wines in my cellar, Douro reds and German whites take up the biggest share.

I own roughly 85% port, or ~400 bottles. I primarily attend port-related tastings. I don't live in the UK, but I also don't consider myself out-of-balance. Rather, I'd compare the proportion of wine-related activities to other activities in my life. I don't run a Port website, nor even the sake website I'd considered starting, nor do I attend more than 1-2 tastings/month. Balance is a matter of perspective.

Update: and now, having read the other comments here, I know that as someone who fancies Port I am amongst the right crowd here on The Port Forum.

You are definitely among like-minded people here - my first love is most certainly port.

But that was a very interesting read - thanks for posting the link.

I missed this the first time around. 36 to 40? That’s pretty much one a week with a few weeks off for Christmas or a Summer holiday. I wish I could keep up that momentum

um... me. My collection is significantly smaller than most here, current number of bottles is only double-digit, but they are all port (in fact almost all vintage port, all except for 1 bottle of tawny and half a dozen Croft LBV halves), and all of the alcohol-related events I have attended in the last year have been port-related (though we do have two wine-related events lined up for later this year).
