Mystery bottle

Hi all,

A while ago I obtained a bottle which was sold by the owner as Port and believed to be at least 40 yrs old.
I'm not convinced at all this this is actually Port. Although it mentions "Portoluz", the bottle, decorations and text remain a complete mystery to me.

As you can see on the below pictures, the bottle is decorated with leather, a gold plated chain, decorative seal and contains a double cork.
Besides the "brand" Portoluz, the seal also shows the name Roicom.

All of this decoration for a 0,375l bottle did make me interested to find out what it contains. Unfortunately the web did not provide any hint.

Anyone has any idea what this is?

rgrds,

Dries

The silver label on the neck seems to have some writing on it. Can you please either photograph that or post what is says on the label?

The silver label has "ESP" printed on it so I searched for ROICOM on http://www.google.es and found http://www.roicom.es who appear to be manufacturers of aguardiente. There is a contact email address on their website so you could send them an enquiry and a picture to ask if it is from there?

Further searching on http://www.google.es reveals that Portoluz is indeed a brand of aguardiente so that is probably what is in the bottle.

Hi Derek,

Great research. I guess my mistake was to use google.com.
It indeed looks to be made by Roicom. Roicom is based in Garriguella and the symbols on the escutcheon (?) resemble the ones from the town (grapes, oak leafs, tower).

I will send them an email for more information.
