Jdaw's New Avatar
Too me this is a powerful expression of the beauty of democracy. You asked us a question, JDAW, and we the people spoke. Phil and I expressed our admiration for the manly demeanour in your new avatar. DRT just about managed to communicate his unfathomable dislike for it. He was in the minority, and his view has been cast aside. However, in your beneficence, you have given way to one of his points and reduced the size of your avatar. Everybody is surely happy now, even Derek.

I agree. Very well drawn.PhilW wrote:Someone has talent; very well captured, especially around the eyes and cheeks (though something strikes me as not quite right about the mouth).jdaw1 wrote:Do people have an opinion about my new avatar?
I think that what's not quite right about the mouth may have something to do with an apostrophe crime. The expression is perhaps registering disapproval?

Yes, I really would.jdaw1 wrote:You’d really climb over me to get to an Imperial of 1966 Vintage Port?
The smaller version is better, but not yet small enough to be preferred over the JDAW trademark image.
This might pass that test:

It seems that phpBB has purged some images. I will edit posts to fix.

I don't think it likes the new image. It keeps alternating between your old one and your new one on my computer. Kinda scary.jdaw1 wrote:It seems that phpBB has purged some images. I will edit posts to fix.

A request: could the first frame of the animated GIF be the placemat so that the handsomeness of its owner is subsequently revealed as a delightful surprise to the viewer?

Fixed silently. Thank you.DRT wrote:A request: could the first frame of the animated GIF be the placemat so that the handsomeness of its owner is subsequently revealed as a delightful surprise to the viewer?
One more request: could both frames be exactly the same size? The current solution is somewhat inelegant.

I have many thoughts on the psychology that underlies this avatar. I am sure Margaret Mead would have something to say about it. On balance I am with Derek.

Do you think of Julian as a rare and exotic anthropological case study?LGTrotter wrote:I have many thoughts on the psychology that underlies this avatar. I am sure Margaret Mead would have something to say about it. On balance I am with Derek.

I'm not sure I could agree with "exotic" but the rest of that sentence is hard to argue with.djewesbury wrote:Do you think of Julian as a rare and exotic anthropological case study?LGTrotter wrote:I have many thoughts on the psychology that underlies this avatar. ex·ot·ic
adjective \ig-ˈzä-tik\
: very different, strange, or unusual
Re: Jdaw's New Avatar
My first thought when I saw the new avatar: Wow, John Travolta is on TPF now (the Travolta of 2014, not the one from SNF).
But that may be due to the fact that I had not yet the pleasure of meeting JDAW in person.

Re: Jdaw's New Avatar
The word exotic is derived from the Greek word for "foreign" and retains that connotation when used in UK English (meaning English). The Webster definition describes only part of what the word means in general usage on this side of the Atlantic.Andy Velebil wrote:Merriam Webster Dictionary:
