The fall has arrived in the mid Atlantic US, and the Portman has emerged from his chysalis to begin his six month season of port engorgement.

Last night, in front of the first fire of the season, a 1995 Taylor's Vargellas, most enjoyable after a six hour decant.

Having finished a bottle of Croft 2005 LBV (which got rather astringent after a week in the decanter), I'm now sipping on an extremely smooth Graham 1983.

Tonight I plan to open a bottle of Quinta do Portal 20 Year Old Tawny to share with friends at a dinner party.

Just came back from 1,5 weeks in the Netherlands, where it surely was port weather. We didn't have time to sit down and properly enjoy a bottle of Vintage Port, but we did want to drink some decent stuff, so I bought a bottle of Fonseca Bin 27, that I drank with my parents. It's been years since I last drank this, and I quite liked it. Good port to warm up to. LadyR and I also enjoyed a bottle of Graham's Crusted (bottled 2001). Clearly a step up and a very nice port. Quite soft, utterly enjoyable.

We brought some more serious stuff back with us to Oman to drink in the coming time. :)

Cr (Ct? C) CROFT 77 for my bday -- good, but underwhelming.
Cl (Ch?) CHURCHILL 85 -- bought a bunch of these, they're disappointing
SW (that's still SMITH WOODHOUSE, right?) 83 -- this needs 6+ hours open, and is good only in a narrow window.

Dow QdB 84, Niepoort 83, Ferreira 75 at a recent NY tasting.

About to decant my last bottle for casual quaffing at home this year - (#48 for 2010) - a Delaforce '77

And have just inspected my oldest 500 bottles for signs of seepage, the first time in about six months..

..not one new offender!

:P :P :P :P
