If you could purchase one of the following, which would it be?
Taylors VVV 2000 x 3 for £370
Fonseca 1985 x 12 for £600
I'm looking for the wine that provides the best QPR and will still be improving in bottle for the next 20-30years. My initial thoughts were with the Fonseca.

Taylor all the way if this is an investment. You can personally thank me in 20 years.

The VVV will command a pretty penny by then, not to mention by something special and exclusive.

Fonseca 1985 for me. Will start to drink at peak long before the Taylor and both will probably outlive you, so while the Taylor may be worth more, the Fonseca will likely give more enjoyment

I don't buy wine as a monetary investment, I buy it as an investment in my future enjoyment and I know how much I would enjoy twelve bottles of F85

Both of these wines will satisfy your second criteria, but the Fonseca undoubtedly provides a better QPR than the TVVV.

I too must vote for the F85. They're both great, but the F85 wins QPR hands down.
I don't have a lot of experience with VVV, but what experience I do have says that it's only marginally better (if at all) than the standard Taylor from the same year. Since it seems to cost about double, that gives it a lower QPR than even a standard Taylor.
As others have said, both will easily last another 30 years. The prices you quoted have the VVV at somewhat more than double the price of the F85, which makes it no contest. Plus by buying the F85 you get 12 bottles instead of 3.

Fonseca all the way! More wine, drinking sooner, and the qualitative difference is marginal.

As an investment, the TVVV00. For pleasure, the F85.

I remain skeptical of the 'superpremium' initiative from Taylors - this is no Nacional vineyard.
at maturity, I even doubt the VVV will ever be superior to the normal vintage...
I'd go for Fonseca 1985 - tried and proven... and great.
Cheers, Victor
