It's vacation time ( 2 weeks ) and what is a port enthousiast to do ?

Are you off anywhere nice or staying at home?

Going to pick strawberries with my daughter Aline ( she's 5 ) and my son Félix ( he's 3 ) . That should take up 1 hour .
Going to take Félix to my favorite barber . ( 1 hour ) .
Going to spend an afternoon at a blues festival with Félix & Aline ( Félix can already Identify a picture of John Lee Hooker )
Other than that , not much on the agenda .

I have loads of CDs of 'Best of' types. Like the Gypsy Kings, Sinatra, Dance, etc, etc. Its great for when your not completely into a particular type of music, but you can appreciate the best of it.
Well you've got me to dig out 'Q the Blues'. A complilation, with Hooker,BB King,Stevie Ray Vaughn,Buddy Guy,etc on it. Haven't played it for years, and, for a change of mood, it'll now get a few airings on the way to work next week.

While I'm on about music, and we're on a Port site, have you ever give Mariza a listen? Her link is here. I have a few CDs and a DVD of a concert in Lisbon. The Portugese love her, and all the Taxi Drivers faces light up when you mention her. The music is Fado, a stylish, soulful music which is supposed to portray wistful emotion. Its great in the background when your drinking Port and eating Piri Piri chicken. It helps your mind wander. Its also useful thats she's quite trim!

Good call. I'd not heard of Howlin Wolf. So checked him out on the internet. Seem to like the sound of Good ol Chester. So although your into intellectual rights and copyrights,etc, I'll have downloaded his 1985 Greatest hits in a few hours. Just wont elaborate how.
Then burn it onto CD and its Blues week on the way to work next week!

Had the chance to see His son play ( Big Bill Morganfield ) 15 yrs ago . He played bass , there was also a hint of Muddy .

Don't know If he drank Port ( whiskey , yes ) , played great slide guitar , maybe It was the fact that he had six fingers on one hand . . .

Six fingers on his picking hand rather than chords' hand, I hope.

About 15 years ago I discovered a white blues man called John Hammond and his stuff is brilliant. He was a session guitarist in the sixties but then started doing his own stuff. According to the site he's down in London on Tuesday and Wales next Saturday.

I've got all my dads johny Mathis and jack Jones vinyl albums. Are these as cool as anything mentioned above?

While we're talking about dads , what got me hooked on blues , was listening in the '70s to a cassette that my dad had of John Lee Hooker .

Johnny Cash , Little Richard , Ray Charles ( saw both of them at blues festivals and Chuck Berry are very cool . . .

Give Buddy Guy a try, still alive and playing in his seventies and to my mind one of the best ever.

For a more recent disk try "Sweet Tea", for older stuff you might try his "Can't Quit the Blues" anthology.

Jay , I've seen Buddy Guy on several occasions , excellent .
However in terms of guitar picking and entertaning , the late Luther Allison impressed me even more . . .
