A handshake and a purple toothed smile to you

Hello,
I was introduced to this site I believe by Gman, who picked up one of my posts on James Suckling's WS blog. Thank you Gman.
I have been into port for about five years now, and have always been disappointed at the lack of comprehensive board for people who enjoy it. The Symington's run a site but I soon grew tired of it as most of the posts are a variation of "I found an old bottle of port in grandpa's attic which has been cooking for 50 years. What is it worth?"
This site looks much more to my tastes.
A little about me. I live just outside of Washington DC. My interest in port started on my annual trip to Galicia, in northwestern Spain, where my wife is from. We stay in a small village that is just on the Portuguese border, and thus do a lot of shopping and eating in Portugal. One of the shopkeepers took me aside one day and gave me a forty year old tawny and I was hooked.
Now when we go on our trip I always go down to Vn de Gaia and we usually take a couple days and drive up to Pinhau where a lot of the prime vineyards are.
My port collecting fits the constraints of my cellar and my wallet, so I don't have a tremendous quantity, 3 full cases and maybe 2 cases of onesy twosys. Bordeaux and Spanish wines are my other wine interests, with Nebbiolo and Rhones ascendant.
I much prefer vintage ports to tawnies, my favorite house is probably Fonseca, and I've yet to have a port older than 1977.
It would be great if there is anyone in the DC area to do an offline, and I've been known to go up to NY or Philly to drink on occasion.
My real name is Bill, and I've chosen the screen name Portman because that is what I use on my other wine board. I hope to learn from those who have much more experience than I do, and to generally contribute from time to time. Cheers, Bill
