This bottle was opened on 20 August but this tasting note is being written with the last glass, consumed on the 24th. It was decanted and stored in a fairly cold refrigerator in the meantime.
There’s some bottle variation in this now - the last one I had from this perfectly stored case was ready to go on pop’n’pour’decant - but this one was not. It was simple and sweet and a deep strawberry colour on decanting, so after one not particularly enjoyable glass I put it back in the fridge. On Saturday night it was full of figgy life, with some plum and prune in support, and much darker. This last glass, still drinking considerably better than night 1, has declined somewhat into the plum crumble and chocolate spectrum, but it is very tasty indeed.
I forget exactly what I paid for this at auction, but it was about forty quid a bottle delivered, which is astonishing value.
