NV Porto dos Santos White 10YO (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in 2022. Deep golden orange colour, 40% opaque. From a straight sided water glass this still managed to deliver an attractive butterscotch and apricot nose. Lovely texture on the palate; rich flavours meld together to give a lovely smooth fruit-forward palate where the ripeness of the fruit is offset by a delicious bitterness to the fruit - almost a grapefruit-like quality sitting within apricot jam. There is great depth to the flavour and the interplay between bitter and sweet continues on the aftertaste and long finish; a finish which is finally dominated by the bitter but fragrant fruitiness of Seville Orange peel. An excellent 10YO White. 90/100. Pop and pour (in Antigua, of all places!). Drunk 29-Oct-2024.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
