1960 Butler Nephew

Post by jdaw1 »

A zombie / in-law invasion needed to be escaped by one of us, and another proposed that the theme be ‘Vintage Port that you would like to drink if you had not Vintage Port for 7 months’. At the Boot & Flogger, on Monday 29th December 2025.

One of six bottles purchased via WineOwners in May 2021.
In neck. Good cork. Heavy sediment.
Decanted at 0930 on morning of tasting. QA sample good.
Back into bottle and Vac-U-Vined at 1100.

BN60, orange, 20% opaque. Multiple varieties of ‘no’. Acidic, and too far past prime.

Butler Nephew 1960, decanted 17.30. A lovely evolved tone of bronze red with a ruby tone rim. Slightly oxidised on the nose but with the fruit showing underneath. The fruit is the dominant flavour on the palate, with a lovely redcurrant jelly spreading over the tongue. Lovely redcurrant aftertaste and long finish. This is a wonderful example of a mature Port drinking at that point where the fruit has concentrated and the baking spices are just starting to emerge. 92/100.

JDAW can pass his to me.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
