Dear members,
In celebration of my 33th I'll be opening the 92 Vesuvio, Taylor and Fonseca this friday.
I have a few friends coming over on Friday, and a few more on Saturday. I plan to decant half the bottle on Friday, and vacuvin the remainder of the bottle and place it in the fridge to be drunk on Saturday.
Good plan?

I might be tempered to decant the whole bottle, then decant half of the decanter into a screw top half bottle and store it in the fridge. The rationale is that all of these will benefit from a few hours in the decanter, but you probably want the second half in suspended animation until day two.
But these are counsels of perfection. In truth all three of those will survive fine by the method you propose, and indeed the Taylor may well be better on day two.

Personally, given the wine is only 33yr old, I'd simply decant the full bottle, and allow any left in the decanter to evolve a little for the second day; sometimes with a wine this young it can even be better on the second day. No faff, and you and your friends can drink as much or as little as you want on the first night without risk of finding you need the other half bottle which either hasn't been decanted or hasn't breathed.

Thank you for these quick replies, I'll decant the entire bottle then and see how it'll evolve. I only own ships decanters, so I'll probably double decant them.

By the way, any TPF members are welcome to join me for a glass on either the 12th or 13th in my hometown of 's-Hertogenbosch.
I know it's a long shot, but if anyone's in the area, feel free to send me a message.
