Hello everyone.
I recently came across a job lot of various alcohol from a wealthy household auction. Amongst the brandy and champagne was a Ferreira 19060 vintage port. I have been a lover of port since my first sip so was quite pleased with this find. However curiosity has got the better of me before I open it. Initial searches of the value tend to be around the £300 mark. If there are any experts here who could share their wisdom, I'd much appreciate it.
Many thanks
Simon.

Hi Simon - welcome to TPF and congrats on your find, Ferreira 1960 is a lovely port when in good condition.
Ferreira is not a commonly available brand in the UK, and doesn't tend to fetch a large premium over other well known wines from this year, unless someone is particularly searching for it. Graham and Fonseca 1960 are more easily available much better known and very good ports, for around £180-240, so I would expect a typical retail price in the £120-180 range for the Ferreira 1960 assuming good condition (level in-neck and red colour for the wine when checked by shining torch through the bottle body) which would equate to an expected auction proceeds (not hammer) or private sale range of roughly £60-100.
Assuming a good level and colour, and if you like your port, I'd certainly recommend drinking and enjoying it.

Hi Simon,
I'm delighted that you've decided to do that. I've had a few bottles of Ferreira 1960 over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed them. It's a lovely, fully mature, gently spiced baked fruit kind of Vintage Port.
But please don't let your Christmas guests persuade you to drink it at the end of a boozy Christmas meal with the cheese. It's such a lovely, mature Port that it deserves it's place as the highlight of a day - you could even serve it as an aperitif.
If you get the chance, please come back here and post your thoughts on the wine, and maybe even a picture or two!
Alex
