F70: dark red, 70% opaque; big sweet plum, full-bodied, This is a wonderful Port, but slightly — only slightly — junior to the Dow.

Later, it was even better. Cliff rightly said “juicing out”.

1970 Fonseca. Dark red, hinting at maturity and only just not opaque. Initially closed on the nose this opened with some swirling to reveal some dark bramble fruit, ripe and fragrant. Rich fruit on the palate with tannins holding the fruit in a gilded cage. Big and effusive with so much fruit shining on the palate. The aftertaste of black cherry and dark chocolate just goes on and on. So youthful. Fabulous Port. 96/100. Bottled by Matthew Gloag & Son of Perth, Scotland under a maroon foil. Double decanted 5 hours.

This was my Wine of the Event.
