NV Quinta de Vale da Figueira Tawny 10YO (bottled 2023)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A sample bottle given to me to taste.

Quinta de Val da Figueira 10YO, bottled 2023. A dark red-chestnut tone, 50% opaque. A richness of dried fruit on the nose, supported by just a little vinagrinho. The wine has a depth of dried fruit on the palate, a richness rarely seen in 10YO tawny and - on the late palate - a gentle dusting of tannins over the top of the concentrated dried fruit. The age of some of the wines used in the blend shines through with the brightness of the acidity on the late palate and aftertaste. Then a glorious long finish of dried fruit and Christmas spices settles onto the palate for several minutes. This has been my favourite 10YO tawny blend in previous years and I am delighted the 2023 bottling lives up to the lofty standards of the earlier incarnations. Really very special. 93/100. Tasted 08-Dec-2024.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Brilliant. I know I have close to 40 bottles of their 10.y.o. (of bottlings from the early 2000s) in my cellar, but I might just have to call Mr. Holzer to purchase a couple of the most recent bottling. Sounds amazing.
