NV Dow Tawny 20YO (Bottled 2022)

Post by nac »

Think this is rarely seen & I've not tasted it before. Is it generally sold in the UK?

This bottle ("Bottled 2022") supplied as part of a Matriarca case, so hopefully has come direct from Symington stocks.

Opened (T-stopper) & poured...

Maybe 40% opaque - possibly lighter than anticipated - beautiful clear red mahogany shade.
Nose isn't overly complex, but pleasant nonetheless. No obvious fruit, definitely some wood and leather.
Palate more forthcoming. Similar nose notes plus some complexity. Dried orange, fig, licorice. But alcohol tends to dominate and is a bit too forward. Very long. Quite dry.

Good, not great, but very drinkable.

2022 is current bottling of this as far as I know. As I buy these here in the states and 2022 is currently being sold. (Last purchase was about a month ago).

They are shipped to and sold in the UK, but are vaguely (but not exclusively) aimed at the on-trade.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
