1977 Smith Woodhouse

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red colour with a brick tone; opaque centre but with a wide rim. Nicely pronounced nose with lots of redcurrant with a nice lemon oil giving a delicious nose. Balanced on entry with rich blackcurrant fruit and a ghost of tannins giving good support. Lovely fruit on the finish with balanced acidity allowing the fruit to dominate the aftertaste. This is a lovely Port, mature yet so expressive. A bold, well balanced and youthful Port. Served blind, this was guessed to be Taylor 1994. 92/100. Tasted 12-Aug-20. Decanted 13 hours.

Tasted at the mid-COVID re-opening of the Boot & Flogger.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
