1906 Quinta d’Algoa, Carcavelos. From the look of the label this was probably bottled in the 1920s-30s. Decanted 2 hours. A warm olive-brown colour with a green rim. The nose shows a little VA, reminiscent of Madeira or cask aged Port. Alongside the VA is a perfumed, honeyed nose. Astonishingly dry on the palate! Generous acidity, iodine and saline tones to the bitter fruit. Big and bold on the palate, very long finish. Concentrated and aged with some oxidation. 92/100. Tasted at a Carcavelos event in Lisbon on 29-Feb-2024.
